The air quality in Central New York has reached the highest level of alert, classified as "hazardous," due to the influx of smoke originating from uncontrollable wildfires in Quebec.

The "hazardous" classification represents the most severe level on the EPA's air quality index. According to the CDC, "Wildfire smoke can make anyone sick, but people with asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), or heart disease, or who are pregnant and children and responders are especially at risk."
