Multiple fire crews were called to a garage blaze in the Rochester area in the early hours of the morning. The Hoo fire is believed to have started accidentally due to a faulty tumble dryer.

Three fire engines were sent to the property in Everest Drive at 1.44am, where crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets, compressed air foam, and high-pressured fans to extinguish the fire and stop the flames from spreading. No injuries were reported and an hour later the incident was resolved.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service is reminding everyone to check their appliances are in good working order before use. They also suggest registering them, so you’re notified of any product recalls or safety repairs.

A spokesperson added: "It's also safer to use white goods such as tumble dryers, washing machines and dishwashers, when someone is home and awake, as you’re more likely to be alerted to a fire more quickly."
